Best Parking Choices During Iditarod
Best Parking Choices During Iditarod - March 1, 2010
In preparation for the 2010 Iditarod Sled Dog Race, the Municipality of Anchorage will be closing off several downtown streets for event set-up. All closures will take place beginning Friday, March 5th at 5:00 pm through Saturday, March 6th at approximately 7:00 pm. Parkers should expect unavailable on-street parking on 4th Avenue from I Street - Cordova. Please carefully review the map and list of prohibited parking areas.
All off-street parking locations, managed by the Anchorage Community Development Authority are available for parking. The 5th Avenue Garage, located on the corner of 5th & B Street, is a prime destination to view the races that commence on March 6th at 10 am. Another prime location are the parking lots located on 3rd Avenue from A Street to E Street, which are in close proximity to the Fur Rondy Carnival.
As a reminder, Anchorage Police Department officers will be on traffic control detail and will be able to assist drivers with directional instructions.
Fur Rondy 2010 Parking
Fur Rondy 2010 Parking - February 1, 2010
ACDA is pleased to announce that Fur Rondy organizers will be staging the Fur Rondy carnival on the Lower Bowl lot located at 3rd Avenue between "E" and "C" Street. The winter celebration draws thousands of people each year to downtown Anchorage and the carnival is a prime destination spot.
As a reminder to our parkers, the Lower Bowl parking lot will be closed to all parking from February 19th - March 11th, 2010. ACDA has close parking alternatives for our permit parkers located at the surrounding lots (see #8 & #9 on the map) including the A/C Couplet lot located on 3rd Avenue between "A" and "C" Street. If you should need further assistance, please contact ACDA Parking Services at 276-7275 (PARK).
City Hall Parking Lot
January 15, 2010 - City Hall Parking Lot
Anchorage Community Development Authority's (ACDA) Parking Services division will be managing City Hall's 58 space parking lot located at 632 W 6th Avenue (on the back side of City Hall) effective January 15, 2009.
"The Municipality of Anchorage leases City Hall and the parking lot. Since it's a prime location, the concept is to have some revenue come in to modestly offset some tax burden for all the taxpayers in Anchorage," says Ron Pollock, Executive Director for ACDA.
"In addition to managing the parking lot during the evenings and weekends, ACDA will provide additional security services for folks that park in the parking lot", says Rick Onstott, Parking Director for ACDA.
Pay by Phone has been established in all of ACDA's managed parking lots throughout the downtown core. Customers parking in the City Hall lot will have the ability to use the Pay by Phone system. To extend parking time during the evening and weekends, call 1-888-450-PARK (7275) and follow the instructions.
The MOA will continue to offer free parking, Monday - Friday from 6 am - 6 pm, for customers doing business with City Hall.
As a reminder, ACDA manages 1,400+ on-street meters that are free on weekends and after 6 pm Monday - Friday.

The AVI card is a garage card that has been mounted on a vehicle's dashboard or windshield. This card is embedded with a microchip that activates the entry/exit gates in the garages. No need to roll down the window and wave a card in front of a card reader!
The premium options at the 6th and 7th Avenue Garages give the AVI card holder the option of parking in an alternate garage. 6th Avenue Garage premium customers may park now in the JC Penney Garage and 7th Avenue premium customers can now park in the 6th Avenue Garage. This option has been designed as a convenience for our customers on rare days when surges in parking result in the inability to find an open parking space in the assigned garage.
